Adoption of a sonSamuel Erwin-Fitzgerald
1970 (Age 62 years)

Note:
Legally adopted by Henry Glen Fitzgerald. Sam was a grown man when Glen and Emma Married and was in the US Army. He loved Glen and especially loved the name "Fitzgerald". It took months to have the name approved by the Army, but did get approved. He played the part of an Irishman through out his life. He was a gay man, a musician, playing the organ beautifully. Sam worked in Angelina County, Texas as a DJ for a radio station, but it is not known where he is located at this time or if he is alive. To call him our half brother would not be what we would want, but being adopted through our dad, Glen, we had to accept the relationship.
Stroke 1974 (Age 66 years)

Note: Glen suffered a stroke, paralyzing his left side. He was unable to speak after the stroke.
Death November 15, 1976 (Age 69 years)
Cause of death: Complications of a stroke. The stroke left him paralyzed on the left side and he was unable to speak after that. He lived for a couple of years after the stroke.
Note: (Body Donated to University of Texas Medical School)

Note
Henry Glen Fitzgerald Written by Glynda Fitzgerald Cumby My dad was a man of Irish descent. He was born in Coleman County, Texas on July 15, 1907. He had black curly hair and blue eyes. He was about 5 ft 4 in tall. According to my aunts, he evidently was a child who got into a lot of mischief. However, he was a sweet man. Glen had only a 7th grade education, but he was an intelligent man. Whatever job he worked, he always became the foreman. He worked as a tool maker for Hughes Tool Company for many years. In 1946, Glen left Hughes Tool and moved our family to Freeport, Texas. There he and a man named Jimmy bought a shrimp boat which was named the Irene. Those were hard years financially in our family. And I used to worry that my dad was out "in the middle of the ocean" and he couldn't swim. Glen married Mary Ann Hammonds on March 31, 1934. They divorced just as I went into high school. Daddy moved to Houston, lived with his parents, and went back to work as a toolmaker. At Todd Shipyard, he made the first tools designed for the space program. Daddy was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a good neighbor and a good friend. His co-workers usually called him ”Shorty” because of his diminutive height. Glen had four wives. He and my Mother, Mary Ann Hammonds, were married for seventeen years. He told me once he was just going to keep getting married until he found someone he could live with. Wives #2 and #3 were short marriages. His last wife, Emma, was the secretary to the lawyer who got Daddy his third divorce. I think they had a pretty good marriage until Daddy had a stroke in 1974. The stroke left him paralyzed on the left side and unable to speak. Once Glen had had his stroke, though, Emma did not want to take care of him. She sent him to Missippippi where he lived with Vira Lee and John for a time. Finally when Glen became too contrary for them to handle, John packed Glen up and returned him to Texas and to Emma. Daddy was put into a nursing home in Bryan, Texas. He died there on November 14, 1976. At his direction, he body was donated for scientific research in the Houston Medical Center.
