Adoption of a half-brotherSamuel Erwin-Fitzgerald
1970 (Age 32 years)

Note:
Legally adopted by Henry Glen Fitzgerald. Sam was a grown man when Glen and Emma Married and was in the US Army. He loved Glen and especially loved the name "Fitzgerald". It took months to have the name approved by the Army, but did get approved. He played the part of an Irishman through out his life. He was a gay man, a musician, playing the organ beautifully. Sam worked in Angelina County, Texas as a DJ for a radio station, but it is not known where he is located at this time or if he is alive. To call him our half brother would not be what we would want, but being adopted through our dad, Glen, we had to accept the relationship.

Shared note
Vira Lee Fitzgerald Written by Glynda Ann Fitzgerald Cumby, 2006 Vira Lee was the middle girl in our family and probably the nicest of the three of us. We learned when she was twelve years that she had diabetes. Her life was never easy after that. She was very ill, and in the hospital many times during her junior high years. One thing that would have helped Vir was a loving, caring older sister. But I was that older sister and I had never been loving and caring towards her. I suppose that was due to childhood jealously, but I didn't know that. And I am sure she didn't know that either. I so regret that I behaved that way. I will always feel guilty about not being there for her and for failing her completely. When she was 17, I moved to California and before long she moved to Dallas and then to Mississippi, and we never lived near each other again. Vir finished high school and went away to college. After a year there she met John Edmonson and they soon married. John could be a little difficult to be around, but he was always honored in our family because he took very good care of Vir. And she continued to be very ill. Because of diabetic complications, Vir and John's first child, a little girl named Kim, lived only one day. So they decided to move to Dallas to be near a doctor that specialized in managing the health of pregnant women with diabetes. Everything went well and Vir gave birth to another girl who they named Sherry. Diabetes continued to rule the lives of this family. Once Vir nearly lost her foot simply because she bought a new pair of shoes that rubbed a blister on her foot. In later years she was losing her vision and taking laser treatments to try to stop the lose. Vira Lee died in John's arms. She was only forty-two years old.
