Shared note
From an Internet Article about Tom Evans. Tom is a famous artist and is currently registered with The Blue Mountain Gallery and presents a solo exhibition of landscapes. Evans comes to Blue Mountain from Austin, Texas where he is a well established artist with a considerable reputation. He shows regularly at galleries throughout Texas and the West, and his work is in many corporate collections, among them The Radisson Plaza Hotel, Austin; Shell Oil Company, Houston; and KN Energy Denver, CO. Most recently Evans completed a mural commission for the City of Austin, Art in Public Places, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. "Hill of the Medicine Man" (Enchanted Rock), is a 9 part canvas, measuring 109' x 9', and fills 9 bays of the airport. It took Evans more than 5 years (from 1995 to 1999), to complete. The mural, a monumental sweeping panorama of a vast mountain range and seemingly endless vista, exemplifies his work. Evans seeks out locations to paint that will convey the sense of freedom and mystery he finds in open isolated spaces and unusual light. The title of his show "Pavement Ends 1000 Feet," is taken from the signs he encounters when searching for images and inspiration. Of his paintings in the show, "El Dorado," 60" x 48", from the Needles area of Southeast Utah, where Coronado searched for the fabled cities of gold, is of a golden hued canyon, fastidiously rendered in the limited but dramatic color palette of all Evans' work and achieves the same monumental scale. Evans is an inheritor of the Realist tradition in American landscape painting, and its photographic counterpart. He captures the grandeur of the Western terrain through close observation and precise rendition of his subject. At the same time the work evokes the intangible and ambiguous emotional sensation that comes from encountering an undiscovered place of spectacular breadth for the first time.
